Hello! My name is Mikey and this is my moving and storage blog. I was inspired to start this blog following a move I made from Perth to Melbourne. I had lived in Perth for the past 7 years so I had acquired a lot of stuff. I was dreading the move because I didn't know how I would transport all of my stuff to my new home. Thankfully, a chum of mine recommended a fantastic moving and storage company. The moving contractors helped me to organise and move my things. I really couldn't have done it without them so I decided to start a new blog detailing my experience.

With home prices on the rise across the country, many people find themselves having to live in smaller spaces to make ends meet. You may have bought a small home and are starting a family, or you have accumulated lots of furniture in your apartment.
Regardless of the situation, a storage unit comes in handy when creating extra space in your home. Your home may actually be larger than you think as clutter is a common problem for most residents. If you're planning to move some of your furniture into a storage unit, here are important steps you should follow.
1. Look for a climate controlled unit
Furniture can easily become damaged when exposed to strong UV rays, cold air or moisture. A climate-controlled unit regulates the conditions inside your storage area and keeps your furniture in good condition.
From the delicate fabrics of upholstered furniture to items made from wood and natural fibres, climate control allows you to set the best conditions for your furniture while it's in storage.
2. Disassemble as much as possible
Breaking down larger items into smaller parts makes the storage process easier. You will also have an easier time transporting such items to and from the storage unit. For example, dressers can be separated into individual drawers, which are easier to place inside the storage unit.
You should also remove all cushions from your couches. This will prevent the accumulation of dust and insects while the item is being stored.
3. Avoid overstuffing
A common mistake people make is to rent a small storage unit and overstuff it with furniture. Putting too much inside your unit is a recipe for disaster as lack of airflow can cause dampness and physical damage to your items.
You will also have a harder time finding specific items when you come looking. Make sure all your items are stored with enough maneuvering space.
4. Use bubble wrap
You should also aim to cover delicate items as much as possible. Bubble wrap comes in handy when covering delicate fabrics, cushions and furniture that has sharp edges. The key to using bubble wrap is moderation. Don't use too much such that air doesn't flow freely through your items.
5. Make sure the unit is secure
Finally, do your homework before selecting a storage unit. Make sure the unit is in a safe and secure location — and that the locks used on each individual unit are in good quality. In today's environment, electronic or combination locks are preferred to traditional locks and keys.
