Mikey's Moving and Storage Blog

Hello! My name is Mikey and this is my moving and storage blog. I was inspired to start this blog following a move I made from Perth to Melbourne. I had lived in Perth for the past 7 years so I had acquired a lot of stuff. I was dreading the move because I didn't know how I would transport all of my stuff to my new home. Thankfully, a chum of mine recommended a fantastic moving and storage company. The moving contractors helped me to organise and move my things. I really couldn't have done it without them so I decided to start a new blog detailing my experience.

Key Things You Should Know About Caravan Winter Storage

Miguel Mitchell

Do you store your caravan every winter? Although the popularity of winter caravanning has been increasing a lot lately, the possibility of towing due to the unfavourable weather conditions discourages most people from travelling. For this reason, it is essential to ensure your caravan isn't subjected to frost damage during storage over the winter. So whether you are an occasional, or habitual caravanner, there are certain rules you must keep in mind to make sure your caravan stays in top shape throughout the cold months, especially if you opt for caravan storage.

Selecting an ideal storage location

One of the best options you have in winter is to store your caravan in a storage facility instead of the driveway. Because you will be entrusting your vehicle to a storage firm, it is essential to make sure they offer high-quality services. Such professional storage firms usually provide a wide range of services, including motorbike and boat storage services.

Begin by researching to know the available options. Be sure to get first-hand testimonials from the current customers by searching online or visiting their premises. The security of the facility is also key. Is it manned by trained experts or CCTV and alarm systems? Does the company provide coverage when your caravan gets lost or damaged during storage? Make sure you also confirm what your caravan insurance plan states about storing the trailer with third parties.

Preparing the caravan for winter storage

Before you can take your caravan to a storage facility for safekeeping in winter, there are certain things you need to do. Start by cleaning the caravan thoroughly, both indoors and outdoors. This gives you the chance to inspect the bodywork. If some damages have occurred, be sure to get them repaired before storage. Use the right products to get rid of the dirt and grime—this will ensure you don't damage the bodywork and seals. Remove all the valuables like radio units and TVs before cleaning.

All water systems must be drained before storage to prevent frost damage. Leaving even the smallest amount of water in the tap-head can lead to costly damages. Therefore open all your taps, drain valves, and get rid of the showerhead and drainage plus. Filters must also be removed and stored safely. Then run the pump to make sure there are no water residues.

Additionally, ensure the electrics are switched off and that the battery is either removed for safekeeping or disconnected from the system before storage.
