Hello! My name is Mikey and this is my moving and storage blog. I was inspired to start this blog following a move I made from Perth to Melbourne. I had lived in Perth for the past 7 years so I had acquired a lot of stuff. I was dreading the move because I didn't know how I would transport all of my stuff to my new home. Thankfully, a chum of mine recommended a fantastic moving and storage company. The moving contractors helped me to organise and move my things. I really couldn't have done it without them so I decided to start a new blog detailing my experience.

If you're moving to a new home, you'll need to hire furniture removalists. They're experienced at shifting heavy items, and they have the equipment, like trolleys, to simplify the process. But what about if you're planning a small move and need only to move some boxes and a few pieces of furniture? Here are several tips to consider when picking a removalist in that case.
Size of the Move
The size of your move is crucial as furniture removalists typically charge an hourly rate, and some have a minimum two-hour charge. This hourly rate, in part, will be based on the size of the truck or van they're using. If you're only moving a few boxes and some pieces of furniture, you probably won't fill up a large van, but you'll be paying for it anyway. Thus, look for a removalist that uses a ute or a smaller truck. They'll often have cheaper rates, so you may be able to save money.
Removalist's Location
Another thing to consider when choosing a removalist is their location. Many companies charge either in kilometres travelled or based on the time taken to travel to your place to begin the move. So, you may be better off looking for someone local. For a smaller move, this travel fee will be a greater proportion of the job's overall cost, so it's something imperative to be aware of.
Stairs
You obviously can't do much about stairs. You might be moving from a first or second-floor apartment. Or, your new home might be upstairs. If there's no elevator, stairs will typically be added to the cost of the move. It's much harder to move stuff up and down steps on trolleys, making the job take longer. Thus, when getting quotes, mention whether or not steps are involved. Due to occupational health and safety concerns, some companies won't move items such as an extra-large capacity fridge up stairs.
Communication Style
Determine the removalists' timetable and communication style. Sometimes you need a removalist to deliver an item you've bought from an online retail store. Does the company you've chosen give you a window of a couple of hours and text or email you first so you can ensure you're home?
Some companies don't communicate well, and they may even arrive at any time during the day without a text message and deposit the furniture items outside without notifying you. Thus, check the contact process of any company you engage for the move. Opt for a company that is good at keeping in touch. Keep these tips in mind when looking for furniture removalists near you.
