Hello! My name is Mikey and this is my moving and storage blog. I was inspired to start this blog following a move I made from Perth to Melbourne. I had lived in Perth for the past 7 years so I had acquired a lot of stuff. I was dreading the move because I didn't know how I would transport all of my stuff to my new home. Thankfully, a chum of mine recommended a fantastic moving and storage company. The moving contractors helped me to organise and move my things. I really couldn't have done it without them so I decided to start a new blog detailing my experience.

When moving house, it is important to pack your household items with care. Proper packing is crucial for protecting your goods against damage during transit. If the belongings are placed haphazardly in the moving truck, you are likely to lose some valuable possessions. In addition, careful packing will protect you from harm during the removal process. If your goods are not packed properly, there is a high risk that you will sustain injuries when moving, particularly during the loading and unloading process. Here are some essential safety tips to remember when packing.
Avoid Carton Overloading
One of the common mistakes made when packing for household removal is overloading the cartons. In general, if you fill your moving boxes to the brim with heavy items, you might sustain injuries. The weight could cause you a lot of strain, increasing the risk of back injuries. In addition, the carton might become torn due to the stress. Therefore, you should choose boxes which are suited for your needs. Look for large cartons for light items like clothing and smaller and tougher ones for heavy items like books. In addition, you must avoid overfilling and overloading the cartons. Keep the weight reasonable for easy handling.
Consider Dangerous Items
When packing your household items, you should take into account the possessions which might be considered dangerous and manage them appropriately. You should begin by looking out for sharp items in your home. These should be cushioned using padding in case they fall out from their package. Also, ensure that they do not protrude from cartons. You should also consider chemicals like acids and flammable materials like paint, thinners and petrol. It is advisable to avoid moving with these dangerous products. Additionally, if you have LPG containers, you should only load them into your truck when completely empty.
Secure the Packages
Moving cartons are not highly secure. In simple terms, the constant pressure applied on the boxes after packing can cause a lot of strain on the structure. As a result, the carton could come undone, allowing the items to fall out. If this happens when loading, unloading or otherwise handling the load, the fallen items could cause injuries. Therefore, it is important to secure your cartons by sealing the structure. Under normal circumstances, you should use safety tape to seal the openings of the packages on all sides. This will minimise the mechanical stress on the cartons.
Packing and moving house can be labour-intensive and time-consuming. Therefore, consider engaging a household removalist for help.
