Mikey's Moving and Storage Blog

Hello! My name is Mikey and this is my moving and storage blog. I was inspired to start this blog following a move I made from Perth to Melbourne. I had lived in Perth for the past 7 years so I had acquired a lot of stuff. I was dreading the move because I didn't know how I would transport all of my stuff to my new home. Thankfully, a chum of mine recommended a fantastic moving and storage company. The moving contractors helped me to organise and move my things. I really couldn't have done it without them so I decided to start a new blog detailing my experience.

Tips for Packing Your Bedroom When Moving Homes

Miguel Mitchell

If you have ever moved homes before, you know how challenging packing is and that's why prior planning is needed. A lot of effort is needed to ensure all the chores are completed on time. The bedroom is one of the most challenging rooms to pack. But, before you start losing hope, here are tips expert removalists recommend. Consider reading through these techniques and hacks to make the bedroom packing process more efficient and easier.

Request everyone to sort out their bedrooms

If you do not have the time to go through everyone's stuff, consider asking them to sort their stuff. This not only fast tracks the procedure but also gives them the opportunity to choose what to discard and what to keep. Your kids can easily sort their belongings, then you can do the same for the master bedroom. Consider having an extra box for packing all the discarded materials so that you can give them away later. After everyone has sorted their bedrooms, packing becomes easier and takes less time.

Pack the clothes first

Once everything is sorted out in all bedrooms, begin packing the clothes. Exercise caution when placing the clothes in boxes; you don't what them to be wrinkled by the time you are unpacking. Note that packing clothes may take longer, but you will get there.

Start packing the shoes

Now that the closet is empty and all the clothes are packed, it's time to pack the shoes. Pick a separate box that can fit all the shoes. You can always add another box if the shoes don't fit in the first box. Before placing each pair of the shoe into the box, ensure that you wrap them using sheets of paper or plastic wraps. Then, use packing material to fill up the space left in your box as this minimises blows.

Pack the pillows and bedding

Purchase transparent plastic garbage bags and stuff in the pillows, linens and beddings. Other than making the process easier, it will be easier to know the beddings for each specific room. Do not forget to seal each bag correctly.

Package the jewellery

Jewellery is not only costly but also delicate. As you pack them, ensure you are careful to avoid breaking or misplacing them. Consider getting a designated box for your jewellery, then ensure each piece is wrapped in a bubble wrap before keeping them in the box. After each piece is placed in the box, be sure to mark it and keep it safe during the move. Jewellery is very fragile so even the slightest blow may severely damage them.
