Mikey's Moving and Storage Blog

Hello! My name is Mikey and this is my moving and storage blog. I was inspired to start this blog following a move I made from Perth to Melbourne. I had lived in Perth for the past 7 years so I had acquired a lot of stuff. I was dreading the move because I didn't know how I would transport all of my stuff to my new home. Thankfully, a chum of mine recommended a fantastic moving and storage company. The moving contractors helped me to organise and move my things. I really couldn't have done it without them so I decided to start a new blog detailing my experience.

Guide to choosing a storage unit

Miguel Mitchell

Storage units have become useful solutions for individuals with too many items unwilling to part with them. Choosing a storage unit can be confusing due to the different types of units available, costs, and sizes. The guide below will help you pick a storage unit that suits your need:

Security

Security is a significant aspect of choosing a storage unit. You want a secure location that ensures that your valuables are safe. When renting a storage unit, check on the security of the storage units. Aspects such as CCTV, fitted gates, and a security guard are functional aspects of some secure storage facilities. You will find that some storage facilities have additional security such as personal alarms and number plate recognition. You should also consider the unit's locks. You may want to add your own locks when renting a storage facility. However, not all facilities will allow you to install your own locks.

Location

Storage facilities are priced similarly to other pieces of real estate. Storage units in the city are more expensive in comparison to those located outside the city. To save money on the rental fee, you should consider renting a storage unit outside the city. This plan will only work if you do not need constant access to your items. Before choosing a facility, figure out how many times you will need to visit the facility.

Price

Rental prices for storage facilities vary even if they have similar features. This is because many storage facilities are independent, hence the independent pricing. You should call a few storage facilities to find out about their prices. When you make the phone calls, make sure you ask about the features they offer. Storage units with features such as climate control may be more expensive.

Climate-controlled storage facilities are suitable for storing items such as furniture and paintings. The climate control prevents the growth of mould and mildew that may damage your items, especially in extreme temperatures.

Size

It is essential to visualise how much space you will need because storage units are available in different sizes. Depending on what you want to store, space needs will vary. Larger storage units are more expensive, so you'll want to make sure you have the right size. Be sure to view the storage unit in person rather than through pictures. Also, most storage companies can help you determine the correct size based on the inventory you want to store.
