Mikey's Moving and Storage Blog

Hello! My name is Mikey and this is my moving and storage blog. I was inspired to start this blog following a move I made from Perth to Melbourne. I had lived in Perth for the past 7 years so I had acquired a lot of stuff. I was dreading the move because I didn't know how I would transport all of my stuff to my new home. Thankfully, a chum of mine recommended a fantastic moving and storage company. The moving contractors helped me to organise and move my things. I really couldn't have done it without them so I decided to start a new blog detailing my experience.

How Best To Prepare For Piano Removal

Miguel Mitchell

Moving a piano is quite arduous, and because it is such a delicate instrument, you have to be extra careful to avoid damage. If you are considering bringing together some of your friends to help you with this task, think again. It's a job that you should leave to a trained and experienced piano removalist.

As you wait for the piano removalist to get to you and start on the heavy lifting, there is quite a bit that you can do to prepare for the removal. If you are unsure of what you should or shouldn't do, it's best to check with the removalist. Here are some tips about moving a piano.

Preparing Your Piano for Removal

If you have been using your piano to showcase your family photos and other decorations, you can remove them before the piano removalist arrives. This is light work that shouldn't take you much time or effort. Once your piano is clear, you'll want to prepare it for the removalists.

The finish on your piano may scratch and dull and suffer some damage quite easily during the move. Protecting the piano against such should be a priority. Non-slip, protective furniture blankets are just what you need for this purpose. You should tuck the blankets beneath the piano's legs and around the bottom edges to prevent them from slipping off during the move. While your piano removalist may have their furniture blankets and offer wrapping service, you can choose to do it yourself to save time. All the removalists have to do when they get to your location is check that the wrapping is done right as they proceed to the next step.

Preparing Your Space for Piano Removal

Your piano removalist will have an easier time and can work faster if there are no obstructions in their path when they remove your instrument. You can clear a path for the removalist by moving around furniture. You can also lay out or remove the carpet on your floor. You can speak to the piano removalist about your floor coverings.

Secure Parking for the Removalist

It will be such an inconvenience if your piano removalist has to move your piano some distance before getting to the van. You should consider parking elsewhere, so that the driveway is free for the movers. If you do not have a driveway, ensure that you secure or reserve a parking spot very close to your home or business.

Things will run much easier if you do some prep work. It is also worth noting that you can save money with this prep work if the piano removalist charges by the hour, as they'll spend less time on your job. For more information, contact a local removalist.
