Mikey's Moving and Storage Blog

Hello! My name is Mikey and this is my moving and storage blog. I was inspired to start this blog following a move I made from Perth to Melbourne. I had lived in Perth for the past 7 years so I had acquired a lot of stuff. I was dreading the move because I didn't know how I would transport all of my stuff to my new home. Thankfully, a chum of mine recommended a fantastic moving and storage company. The moving contractors helped me to organise and move my things. I really couldn't have done it without them so I decided to start a new blog detailing my experience.

Two Tips to Follow if You’ll Be Using a Removalist’s Moving and Unpacking Services

Miguel Mitchell

If you'll be using a removalist's moving and unpacking services during your move, here are a few tips that might prove useful.

Try to time any new furniture deliveries so that they coincide with the unpacking period

If possible, you should ensure that any new furniture delivery you have arranged coincides with the time period in which the removalists will be unpacking your items in the new property. Then, you should send the removals company a message to ask them if they can unpack this new furniture when it arrives, in addition to the items they will be transporting for you.

Taking this approach instead of getting the new furniture delivered the day after the move will mean that every single item you own will be unpacked within this period and you won't be faced with the task of unwrapping and then assembling several bulky furniture items the following day, at a point when you'll probably be completely exhausted.

Furthermore, utilising the removalists' skills in this manner will mean that you can set about doing the most enjoyable aspects of setting up your new home right away if you so wish. For example, if your new sofa is unpacked and fully assembled within hours of it arriving at the house, you can then start experimenting with different cushion and throw combinations. Likewise, if the new dining table ends up being unwrapped and ready for use the day that you move, you can have fun creating a centrepiece and choosing a pretty tablecloth for it.

Don't take a break whilst the removalists are unpacking

Even though you might be tempted to flop down onto the nearest chair when you arrive and enjoy a nice nap whilst the removalists start dealing with the unpacking of your new furniture and other belongings, you should try not to do this. Instead, you should collect up and throw away all of the cardboard boxes that they empty as well as any styrofoam padding or packing paper that was in these boxes.

Doing this whilst the removalists are unpacking your things will mean that when they finish and leave, you won't be left with a sea of cardboard and plastic strewn everywhere and instead will be able to enjoy the sight of your unpacked and tidy new home. Furthermore, if you discover that you cannot quite fit all of this packaging into your bin whilst the removalists are still around, they may be willing to take this excess refuse with them and dispose of it at their facility instead.
