Mikey's Moving and Storage Blog

Hello! My name is Mikey and this is my moving and storage blog. I was inspired to start this blog following a move I made from Perth to Melbourne. I had lived in Perth for the past 7 years so I had acquired a lot of stuff. I was dreading the move because I didn't know how I would transport all of my stuff to my new home. Thankfully, a chum of mine recommended a fantastic moving and storage company. The moving contractors helped me to organise and move my things. I really couldn't have done it without them so I decided to start a new blog detailing my experience.

How to Interview a Residential Removalist

Miguel Mitchell

Many people hire a residential removalist when it's time to move their homes. Choosing one removalist over the other can be challenging. Below is a guide with some interview questions to help you choose a removalist that offers high-quality services.

What Is Your Operating Route?

Most people will look up the removalist online. Therefore, it is vital to inquire about the removalist's operating route. A removalist that works within your area will charge less since they do not have to travel a long distance to conduct a home inspection. Additionally, the removal truck will consume less fuel from the removalist's premises to your home and new house.

When Are You Available?

Most people have a tight removals timeline. Therefore, it would be wise to inquire whether the removalist is available on the day you intend to move. If you live in flat, resident association bylaws could compel you to move in the evening or the weekend when there is less traffic in the walkways and elevators. If this is the case, ask whether the removalist offers weekend or night removal services.

Can You Move Oversized Items?

It is an essential consideration if you have heavy furniture, a grand piano, a boat, or a classic car. If the item is located a few floors above the ground, the removalist could need a crane or forklift to lower and load it. Alternatively, the professional could use a trolley to move the item. When hauling a boat, ATV, or car, the removalist should help you secure the permits required to move such items.

What Are Your Exemptions?

Unknown to many homeowners, most removalists have exemptions. For instance, the removalist could ask you to move your pets, sensitive documents, and valuables such as cash, antiques, and jewellery. Knowing these exemptions will help you when preparing for the move. For instance, you could hire a security company to move your valuables and purchase a cage to move your pets.

Other Than Removals What Other Services Do You Provide?

Consider removalists that offer a wide range of services. For instance, you could need temporary storage if your new home requires some renovations. If you are on a budget, you could opt to handle some of the removal works. In this case, you could ask the removalist to provide a portable on-demand storage (PODS) container. Alternatively, you could hire the removals van or opt for a backloading service.

When interviewing your removalist, inquire about their operating route, availability, exemptions, and additional services. Remember to examine the removalist's experience and reputation.
